Due to the popularity of Mandarin lessons, it means there will be a need for more large classrooms at Harlow Chinese School. The school plans to create another big classroom by merging two existing small classrooms, this will produce a total of three large classrooms in the school. As the school cannot physically grow any bigger, we need to re-arrange the timetable to accommodate all the classes run by the school.

The school proposes to change the current two sessions to three sessions on the Saturday as shown below:

Class

Year 1 Lower

Year 1 Upper

Year 2

Year 3

Year 4

Year 5

Year 6

Adult Year 1

Year 7

Year 8

Year 9

Adult Year 2

Session

1

2

3

Time

9.30 – 11.30

11.45 – 13.45

14.00 – 15.45

With the three large classrooms running over three sessions, we will have effectively created enough large classrooms for nine classes, which will be sufficient to meet all future needs for Mandarin classes. This is a good long-term solution because these changes will cater for all future needs of the school without further disruptions.

We are aware that this is a major change to the way the school has been running and may have an impact on pupils and their families. We would like to hear from parents on their views so that we can take them into consideration before a final decision can be made. Please speak to a schoolteacher if you have any concerns with the proposed changes.
